Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce the signing of defender Lewis Gibson on loan from Everton until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old arrives on the Fylde Coast after impressing for Everton’s Under 23 squad since joining the Toffees from Newcastle United in 2017.

A commanding left-footed central defender, Gibson was named captain of David Unsworth’s side aged just 17, before playing a key role as the Under 23s secured a Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup double in 2018/19.

Gibson has also enjoyed success at international level, representing England at U17, U18 and U20 level. He was part of the squad that won the U17 World Cup, alongside Cod Army goalkeeper Billy Crellin.

Head coach Joey Barton said on completing the signing of Gibson: “Lewis is a player that we have been tracking for a while and we are really pleased to see him join us until the end of the season.

“He’s left-footed, big, strong and will be a superb addition to our squad. We anticipate that he will make a real impact in our team from now until the end of the season.”
