Fleetwood Town defender Callum Connolly spoke to the club following his loan move from Premier League side, Everton.

Connolly becomes the Cod Army’s first signing of the January transfer window, with the ex-Lincoln City loanee playing 15 times this season for The Imps, whilst chalking up an assist in the process.

The 22-year-old will wear the number 4 shirt, previously worn by veteran defender, Peter Clarke.

Here’s what our new signing had to say:

On joining the club…

“Delighted to be here! Obviously, I was going to come here in the summer on loan again but it didn’t work out but now I’m just glad that I’m here now and hopefully I can kick on now for the rest of the season.

“We’ve got a big few months ahead, not just for me but for the club as well. It’s a club on the up. I know a few lads from before, the coaching staff seem great, facilities, they’ve got everything going for them. I couldn’t speak highly enough of them, as I said I’ve only been here one day but we’ve got everything to fit the bill, but we need to put performances in to games.”

Excitement for working with Joey Barton…

“I am definitely, I’ve only been with him one day but I can tell how passionate he is about his football and about the lads and I think he strives for success and hopefully we can do that this season.

“We spoke before I signed and we spoke just then, I think he’s happy with me and I’m happy that I’m joining the team and hopefully we can have a successful season.”

On loan moves and positions…

“I’ve learned something different with each loan from different managers, different playing styles, different teammates so you learn something different with each loan you go on.

“I’m thankful that I’ve done that from a young age and it’s stood me in good stead, so hopefully this will be another step in my development and hopefully we can have a good season.

“I’ve played a lot of positions over my career so far. I’m just here to help the cause, wherever the gaffer wants me to play I’ll play for him and put 100% into every game and just hopefully we can keep on winning.”

First day and the game against Burton…

“It was good! They seem like a good bunch and obviously there’s a small squad but we’ve got some very good players here, and as you can see from my first day, the team chemistry seems very good and hopefully we can move that to the pitch.

“Yes definitely. Obviously, Burton are a good side who like passing the ball around and it will be a tough test. If the gaffer wants me to play, I’ll make sure I’m ready and give 100%.”
