Fleetwood Town head coach Joey Barton reacted to his teams 1-0 victory away at high-flying Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Barton watched his side pick up all three points at Adams Park with Paddy Madden scoring the all important goal with 15 minutes left in the match.

Here is what he had to say:

On the game…

“It’s just another win for us, but I am disappointed that we haven’t’ gone on to win the match by four or five because that is how far ahead of them (Wimbledon) tonight. We’ve played Wycombe a couple of times and picked up points, and tonight right at the end it was backs up against the wall after being so dominated.

“We then had our striker Ched Evans sent off, and when that happens you are thinking it is going to be one of those nights. The lads came through with each other and that has nothing to do with coaching, that’s down to determination not to lose a game of football.

“It was one win in eleven for us before this match, and then two wins on the spin and then the win tonight. If we want to be competitive in this division, certainly at the top end, we have to come to places like this and showcase our qualities. We were outstanding and I am so please for the lads tonight”

On being the second team to beast Wycombe at home…

“We knew coming here that we had to respect them and Gareth Ainsworth, who I respect a lot as a manager has got his players playing with that never say die attitude. They are difficult to play at home but tonight we showed our qualities and we know if we operate at that level, we will cause any teams problems.

“We never skipped a beat and should have been up three nil up after 15 minutes after hitting the bar and with their keeper making great saves. At half-time we said keep doing what you are doing and in the second half we were even better without really creating any guilt-edge chances.”

On Barrie McKay’s performance…

“Barrie showed today what he is! In my opinion he’s the best attacking player in this division by an absolute distance. He is a Championship quality player and I am just very surprised that we have got him here.

“I can’t believe he was available, but I am so glad we was!”

On Madden’s goal…

“You will do well to get that goal of Paddy. From where I was, I couldn’t make a call if he got a touch on the ball, and Barrie will be a brave man if he’s going to take that off Paddy.

“Goal scorers don’t give up goals lightly and I am not fussed who scores the goals. We are pleased we got the win.”
