Defender Tom Edwards sat down with the press on Thursday afternoon ahead of Fleetwood Town's Sky Bet League One clash against Blackpool at Highbury.

Edwards - who has been an ever-present since joining the club on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City - is looking forward to his first Fylde Coast derby and is wanting to help Fleetwood claim the local bragging rights with a win over the Seasiders.

Here's what Tom had to say:

On the opposition…

“It comes down to us as players and staff as we need to get ourselves up for that. Even though the fans won’t be there, we know they will be supporting us from home and it’s bragging rights really. It’s Fleetwood versus Blackpool, we’re close to each other, it’s a derby and we want to come out on top of every game, including this one.

“They are on a good run and are doing well at the moment – we obviously want to stop that, and we want to win every game. With them on a good run, we want to turn ours around again and get back to winning ways so it’s going to be a good game and one that we come out on top of.

On the busy schedule…

“We’ve got a lot of games coming up and we want to make sure that we can play to our best every time. We want to recover properly and do it well which is a big thing at this club as we do it properly every time. I’m sure we can cope with it with the squad we’ve got. We have players who can come in, as well as the players who are starting now, so it’s good to have a squad as strong as this one.

“You can tell the tempo in training goes up every day, it's hard to keep your spot in the team and it’s even harder to get into the team. Once you’re in it, you’ve got to prove that you are good enough to stay in it. There are players who deserve to get on and deserve the chance to play so you’ve got to perform your best in training and on game days.”
