Fleetwood Town’s Under 18s started their pre-season schedule off on Wednesday afternoon, with a 3-0 win over Preston North End at Poolfoot Farm.
Simon Wiles’ side walked away from their opening fixture with a win over the Lilywhites, as Shaun Sithole, Ben Thompson, and Cian Hayes scored on the day.
The Under 18s played well throughout the fixtures, and most importantly, they all got their first 45 minutes of pre-season into their legs.
The side – which was a mix of u16s and u18s - showed good energy to win the ball back, and with Preston pressing high, it gave them lots of opportunities to play out under pressure. They also introduced a few first years into the game - Tom Hoyle, Matty Fenton, Covy Smith, and u16 Brad Arthur in the fixture.
The second half saw us Fleetwood make 11 changes, with first years Connor Eastham (GK), Donte Thompson-Prempeh and U16’s Josh Kearns, Josh Feeney, Kyle Harrison King getting minutes. They worked hard both in and out of possession and created chances that were converted through Shaun Sithole, Ben Thompson, and Cian Hayes.
The Under 18s are back in action on Saturday 29 October as they are set to face Blackburn Rovers.
