Midfielder Callum Camps has said that Fleetwood Town are the perfect team for him after becoming the club’s first signing of the summer.

The 24-year-old joins the Cod Army from Rochdale on a two-year deal, after spending seven years there and making 240 appearances for Dale.

Camps had his most prolific season last year, scoring eight goals and getting his first brace of his career in a cup tie against Bolton Wanderers, but the midfielder wants to carry on that progression and better it in the 2020/21 season with Fleetwood.

We spoke to Callum after he signed his new deal with the club. Here is what he had to say…

On the move…

“I’m just excited to get it over the line really. I went to the training ground and it’s not like anything I’ve seen before at this level. I couldn’t wait to get it all done before the lads get in on Monday, I’m happy to be here.

“I knew it was going to happen, I’ve had some of back and forth with a lot of clubs over the Summer, and after speaking to the manager and the coaching staff here, I though this was the perfect fit for me to progress my career.

On the squad…

“The squad that Fleetwood have already is already one of the best in the league and after speaking to the gaffer, after seeing the depth of stats and details that he goes through from previous games, it made me want to come here and play at this club.

“I’ve been at Rochdale all my life, and this is the first move I’ve ever had so it’s a strange one. It’s going to be a bit odd meeting a whole new set of lads and have to get to know everybody and their personalities but putting the top on and with games just around the corner, I can’t wait to get going!

On his season ambitions…

“I’m a creative player and I like to play around the edge of the box and shoot as much as I can. I’ll try my best in every game and hopefully play my part as I want to come in and score goals. Last year I scored eight goals in the season but, personally, I want to reach ten this season at Fleetwood.

“The way that Joey wants me to play and help get the club up a division made me realise that this is the club that I can show what I can do in.”
