Fleetwood Town’s Under 17s suffered a 3-1 defeat to Salford City in the Clarets Cup at Poolfoot Farm on Tuesday.

The Under 17s – who beat Barnsley in their last fixture in the Clarets Cup – started the game by creating chances through Enoch Takpe, Cian Hayes and Shaun Sithole but, unfortunately, none of them were able to hit the target.

Fleetwood did get on the board in the second half as a corner was whipped into the box, which a Salford defender tried to clear but ended up heading it into his own goal.

It was a good learning curve for under 16 players Bobby Flitcroft, who started the game and played 60 minutes, and Hayden Ellis, who came on for the injured Kai Steer with 30 minutes to go, as they managed to gain some valuable experience against a very physical side.

Kian Makepeace was brought on with 20 minutes to go, and he took control of the ball in the middle of the park and managed to bring others into the game.

The Under 17s next game in the Clarets Cup is against Crewe Alexandra on Wednesday 25th September (1:00pm kick-off) at Poolfoot Farm.
