Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies Reserves were knocked out of the Cup at the weekend as they lost 5-4 to Preston North End’s Ladies Development Squad.
It wasn’t the ideal start to the game for the Fylde Coast side as they suffered an early goal in the game, and never recovered in the opening 45 minutes. Three more goals followed for the Lilywhites before the half-time interval.
Words were said in the dressing room, and with Megan Hague scoring after the restart, the girls believed the comeback was on.
Hague bagged another goal with Jodie Hazlehurst and Amber Fisher making it a nervy ending for the hosts. Town pushed and pushed for the equaliser, and nearly got it, however, they were denied by a fantastic save by the North End keeper.
The Wrens Ladies First Team were also in action on Sunday afternoon, and lost 2-1 to Morecambe Ladies at The Globe Arena in their league campaign.
The Wrens only goal of the match came from debutant Eve Kennerley – who previously played for Blackburn Rovers Ladies - her strike gave Town hope, but with two goals from the hosts, it was enough for them to pick up the points.
Emma Whittaker was the Cod Army’s Player of the Match, but it could have been a number of players with their performances on the pitch. Town played the Shrimpers off the park but ultimately couldn’t grab the equaliser they thoroughly deserved.
All eyes are now on their next fixtures: First team are at home against Mossley Hill Athletic (2pm kick-off), with the Reserves playing on the road at Nelson Ladies (2pm kick-off).
