Fleetwood Town’s Under 18s fell to their first defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 1-0 at home to Accrington Stanley in the Youth Alliance League.

Simon Wiles’ side had started the season with an incredible 12 straight victories in all competitions, including progression to the Third Round of the FA Youth Cup, as well as topping their Youth Alliance Cup group.

However, with a number of players missing due to international call-ups and injuries, the young Cod Army side couldn’t beat a stubborn Stanley side who took the points courtesy of a second half goal.

Fleetwood did have chances to score late on, but neither Joe Collins or Cian Makepeace could keep the team’s unbeaten record going. Cian Hayes – who become the club’s youngest ever player when he came on during the EFL Trophy match with Oldham Athletic last week – looked threatening throughout but couldn’t find the decisive goal for Wiles’ team.

The Under 18s are next in action when they face local rivals Blackpool at Poolfoot Farm on Saturday 23 November (10:30am).
