Premier League to help fund Kicks programme for another three years

The Premier League Kicks programme funded by the Premier League Charitable Fund has been given funding for the next three years thanks to the amazing work done in the local community.

The aim of the Premier League Kick programme is to encourage safe participation in sporting activities, whilst assisting towards the reduction in anti-social behavior for children 8-18 years old.

Fleetwood Town Community Trust have been delivering the initiative since 2016, and have worked with over 850 young people across eight different centres in Fleetwood, Garstang, Preesall, and others across the Fylde Coast.

Participants who attend get the opportunity to take part in regular fixtures and tournaments with other community organisations in the North West.

John Hartley, Community Sports Development Officer at the Trust, explains: “The re-launch of Premier League Kicks for a further three years highlights the impact made in the initial three years of delivery across Wyre.

“We believe that we provide a safe environment for young people where they can mix socially and create positive relationships with others in the community doing something they love!

"The programme offers opportunities to be educated on national topics such as mental health and knife crime."

Local MP Paul Maynard attended Friday’s relaunch and oversaw the session delivered to local children and young adults. He was pleased to see so many turn out, despite the atrocious weather conditions on the night.

"I was really pleased to see the great work John and the rest of the team from Fleetwood Town Community Trust were doing with boys and girls of all ages," said Maynard.

“In atrocious weather on the night - to get them not just off the streets, but on the pitch doing something positive, and learning about teamwork. Long may it continue!"

Jake Kelly (13), a participant on the programme, added: “I really enjoy coming to the Premier League Kicks sessions to play football with my friends and enjoy having a laugh with the coaches.

“This year I’ve been to Kicks sessions at Fleetwood High, Martindale and Milton Street, and I’ve been coming since the programme began in 2016. I really enjoy it!”
