Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies have been knocked out of the Lancashire Cup after a 2-0 loss to Bolton Wanderers Ladies at Poolfoot Farm on Sunday.

Dave Butler’s ladies made it to the last eight in the competition after Haslingden Girls & Ladies were unable to field a team in the round of 16, meaning the game had to be cancelled.

The Wrens started out the game well, but it was a free-kick midway through the first half that broke the deadlock for the visitors. Rebecca Foster stood over the ball and whipped the dead ball into the top right corner of the goal – leaving the goalkeeper no chance.

Bolton doubled their lead in the second half after they broke down the Fleetwood defence with wing-to-wing play, before a cross from the right was converted by Safron Newhouse from close range.

It was a good cup run for the ladies, and they will hope to build on this next season.

The Wrens Ladies first team have Wigan Athletic Ladies & Girls up next at Poolfoot Farm on Sunday 24 November (2pm kick-off), whilst the Reserves take on Wigan’s Development Squad at the same time at School Road.
