Over 500 junior footballers from clubs across the Fylde Coast were in attendance at the weekend for Fleetwood Town’s Grassroots Day initiative!
The club invited children from the local grassroots league in the Fylde Coast area to watch Joey Barton’s side, and despite the wet and windy conditions, it was a successful day from start to finish.
40 teams were represented at Highbury for the Cod Army’s draw against Gillingham. The Percy Ronson Stand which normally houses the visiting supporters, became our junior end for the day and all the youngsters were together in their club colours creating a great atmosphere for all.
When picking up their tickets prior to the match, teams were posing for pictures inside and outside the ground, making the most of the club's initiative of getting young and inspiring players through the gates, enjoying football at their local professional football club.
General Manager Dave Riche said: “It was great to see so many juniors inside the ground and they are the future of our football club.
“A big thanks to Fleetwood Town Community Trust and Poulton and District Primary League for all their assistance – it was a real team effort.
“We hope everyone enjoyed their day and we look forward to seeing them back at Highbury for our final five games and beyond.”
The Community Trust's Sports Development Officer Jason Sharp added: "It was fantastic to see so many young fans inside the ground on Saturday. They made some real noise from behind the goal and I hope many of those return next time the first team play at home."
Until the end of the season, anyone under the age of 16 can get an Onward Card for just £18, which will give them entry to our final five games against Plymouth Argyle, Sunderland, Southend, Peterborough and Bristol Rovers.
