Summer signing Danny Andrew says he is pleased to get pre-season underway after the Cod Army began preparations for the new season on Wednesday.

Joey Barton’s side reported back to Poolfoot Farm this week, with the hard work starting ahead of the 2019/20 Sky Bet League One season.

Andrew – who rejoined the club from Doncaster Rovers – spoke to iFollow shortly after undertaking the dreaded bleep test.

“It’s was tough!” said the 28-year-old.

“It’s always good to get in and get the first session done, and now I’m looking forward to the rest of the week. You always enjoy the first couple of the weeks, but you get to a point where you’re itching to get back onto the grass.”

Since the left-back joined the club, the fixtures for the new campaign have been announced, with a trip to Andrew’s former club on the opening day of the season.

“It’s a very good fixture,” said Andrew on the trip to Peterborough United.

“It’ll be tough, but if we can get off to a good start that will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

“You always want to start well, but it’s a long season and if you don’t pick up wins in the first few games it’s not the end of the world. We will look to start well, and we go back to Doncaster early in the season which will be interesting too.

“I don’t think Fleetwood were that far off from last season, and I know the gaffer has said that he knows what he needs to change having got 12 months of experience under his belt.

“We stick by him and trust what he wants us to do.”
