Fleetwood Town are delighted to confirm the signing of Paul Coutts.

The Cod Army beat a host of clubs to the signature of the 30-year-old who left Sheffield United this summer following their promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder arrives with more than 300 career appearances under his belt for the likes of Sheffield United, Derby County and Preston North End.

He becomes Town’s third signing of the summer, penning a two-year deal, following the arrivals of Danny Andrew and Josh Morris at Highbury Stadium.

Coutts began his footballing career up in Scotland before joining Peterborough United in 2008 - winning promotion to the Championship in his first season at the Posh.

Two Championship seasons with Preston North End followed before a move to the red side of Sheffield where Coutts gained two promotions with the club. One a starring role in their League One title winning side before automatic promotion to the Premier League last term.

He was released by the Blades summer in a move manager Chris Wilder described as the "hardest thing he’s had to do in his career."

Head coach Joey Barton said on the signing: “Paul is a player we have been working on for a number of months now and we are delighted to get it over the line.

“He’s someone who’s been there and done it at this level and raises the standards on and off the field.

“He’s an exciting signing for Fleetwood Town and I’m looking forward to working with him."

Paul Coutts will wear the number 15 shirt for the coming season.
