Vice-captain Ash Eastham spoke to the club after finishing his first full day on the week-long pre-season training camp in Vilamoura.

Town returned to training almost a fortnight ago and have been constantly preparing for the upcoming 2019/20 Sky Bet League One season.

The defender – who travelled to Portugal alongside Town’s first team - is feeling positive about the squad’s activities so far on the tour and can’t wait to see what happens next.

In an interview on Monday afternoon, Eastham explained what has occurred so far on the camp.

On the workout regimen so far on tour…

“The manager wants to get into a routine of doing some pre-breakfast workouts, which is why we did a gym circuit around 7am. We had a bit of a fasted run and a workout which always gets you going early in the morning. Then, we had breakfast as a team and then prepared for the next session.

“We’ve been working on a few things in training so far, mainly technical aspects due to us only having returned to training a week ago. So, it’s important to get the fitness back into our bodies and start really working on the technical aspects of our game including work on the shape of our team, as a unit.”

On the first full day of training in Vilamoura…

“It’s been a really good day for us all. Obviously, we arrived yesterday but this is technically classed as day one of the camp. We had a good early morning session before breakfast and then moved onto our football work on the grass from 10am onwards. It’s been a good start and I know the lads, me included, can’t wait until the next training session.

“It was an interesting run to be fair this morning because we went all around the camp. It didn’t help that the sprinklers turned on everywhere, but we got on with it. It was good to just get up and get started for the day ahead.”

On the squad’s overall fitness…

“I’m feeling good, really good to be honest. The lads are looking great as a whole. They’ve all come back in pretty good shape which always helps move things along quickly and progress faster as a team. Fingers crossed we don’t have any niggles or any stiffness in the near future and take a full squad into the new season.”
