Chairman Andy Pilley has described his excitement about Fleetwood Town’s summer recruitment so far - promising there’s more to come.

Paul Coutts, Josh Morris and Danny Andrew have already arrived through the door at Highbury Stadium, players with proven quality at League One level.

And on the eve of the club’s first pre-season friendly as they welcome Wrexham to Poolfoot Farm on Friday (kick-off 6pm), the Town Chairman spoke of his excitement for the coming season. Saying:

It has been a busy summer for you, another signing through the door, you must be delighted with the signing of Paul Coutts?

“I’m thrilled to get Paul Coutts in the building. We’ve been chasing him since we heard he’d been released, Joey [Barton] was straight on the phone to him. He’s a player who has won promotion twice from this league. Undoubted quality, and that will make a real big difference.

“It is a real is a statement of intent and it shows that we mean business and that we are really about quality when it comes to getting new players though the door.”

It has been a busy summer, two former players have come through the door, Danny Andrews and Josh Morris are more signings of intent of where you want to take this football club?

“Indeed, yeah we know both players well, both are very good players. Josh has made it into the League One Team of the Year two years ago.

“I believe he is the top of goals outside the box, second on assist, twenty goals on set pieces so exceptional quality, really good attitude and good work rate, good to have around the place.

“Danny very similar character also, and is very good with dead ball situations. There is going to be a few arguments over free-kicks I think this year, but Danny got a real good run last year forty six games and he played his part in Doncaster achieving the play-offs.”

These signing are ones fans should look forward to seeing on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon aren’t they?

“They really should. I think it shows we mean business and the players we are bringing in are top quality. They will help us turn draws into wins and potential loss situations into draws, and make no mistake we want to show we are right up there this season, and hence why we are investing in such quality.”

Can we expect to see more signings through the door?

“Yes. The squad is of real quality and there is more to come as well. We are hoping to add another couple who will make a real difference to the squad.”

With these additions you’ll be hoping for a better season than the last one?

"The players we have recruited and the players we are doing all we can to get into the building during the remainder of the pre-season will be hugely impressed with what we have brought in so far.

“This is because, as we mentioned before, they are clear statements of intent and it shows the entirety of the Football League that our intention is to be competing at the top of end of the Division.”

Have you got a message for the fans for the upcoming season?

“My message is get your Onward Cards, get behind the team, cheer them on, on a Saturday or Tuesday night, get travelling in numbers and let’s enjoy what promises to be a very exciting season.”
