Fleetwood town players and staff visited Red Marsh School on Tuesday afternoon, to spread the Christmas spirit to the local community, with the event organised by the Community Trust.

Head coach Joey Barton was joined by club captain Paul Coutts, Lewie Coyle, Paddy Madden, Wes Burns and Alex Cairns, as well as coaches Dave Lucas and Barry Nicholson, as they handed out presents to over 90 students, including 30 Fleetwood Town home shirts.

All the players and staffs went from class to class, taking part in festive activities with the children, who seemed ecstatic to meet everyone from the club.

Speaking about the importance of the club being involved in the local community Joey Barton said: “It’s the least we could do, just get out and meet the kids and see how excited they got when we were giving out selection boxes and shirts. Our football club is at the heart of our local community.

“It was a really nice thing to do at this time of year and get around the local community and bring a bit of festive spirit into the local schools.”

Barton was impressed that the players dug into their own pockets to fund the presents, saying:

“It’s brilliant from the lads, we say to them every year to make a donation and they set that themselves.

“They’re an absolute credit to the football club in the way that they conduct themselves, and obviously to see the impact of that on peoples faces and how much it means to them that we’ve shown we were thinking about them at this time of year.

Everyone at Fleetwood Town would like to wish the students and teachers at Red Marsh School a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
