Fleetwood Town are pleased to announce the signing of experienced defender Peter Clarke.

Centre-half Clarke has been training with the Cod Army throughout pre-season, and with the new season starting on Saturday at Peterborough United, Clarke has penned a one-year deal at Highbury.

Clarke, 37, has made over 700 appearances in his career, spanning 20 years for clubs such as Huddersfield Town, Blackpool, Southend United, Bury, and more recently, Oldham Athletic.

His performances last season for Oldham saw him crowned their Player of the Year, as well as winning Goal of the Season for a stunning strike at Crewe Alexandra.

A vastly experienced defender who has been a captain at numerous clubs he has played for, Clarke will bring leadership and defensive qualities to the Cod Army.

Head coach Joey Barton said upon signing his seventh player of the summer window: “Peter initially came in to train and stay fit over the summer, but the influence he’s had on the dressing room and the attitude he’s shown has been first class.

“His career speaks for itself, and we hope that he can bring his experiences throughout his career into our squad for the upcoming season.

“He’s impressed in our pre-season matches and we look forward to seeing him making an impact on the field for us.”

Clarke will wear the number four shirt for the upcoming 2019/20 Sky Bet League One season, which begins on Saturday at Peterborough United.

The best way to follow Peter Clarke and Fleetwood Town this year is by getting your Onward Card. Adult prices start from £170, with seniors and under 25s starting at £120, and under 16s from £23. Visit for more details.
