The 37-year-old has featured for the club in pre-season ahead of the new Sky Bet League One campaign, and has penned a one-year contract with the club.

Gilks come to Highbury as a vastly experienced goalkeeper, and has featured for clubs such as Rochdale, Blackpool, Burnley, Glasgow Rangers and most recently last season, League Two winners Lincoln City.

Town’s eighth signing of the summer is also a Scotland international, featuring three times, with his last cap in 2013.

“He’s a great character and fits well into our ever-growing culture at the football club, so for us, it’s a great fit.”

Gilks will wear the number 13 for the upcoming Sky Bet League One season, which begins this Saturday against Peterborough United.
