Town started the game strongly, with Harry Souttar getting on the score sheet after just three minutes, nodding in Paul Coutts' corner from six-yards.
Josh Morris quickly added a second, as he spotted Posh goalkeeper Christy Pym off his line and provided a delicate ship over him and into the far corner.
Ivan Toney pulled one back for the hosts but a spectacular 30-yard free-kick from full-back Danny Andrew put the game to bed, securing Fleetwood all three points on the opening day.
