Joey Barton's side travelled to The City Ground to face former European Champions Nottingham Forest in the first round of the Carabao Cup, with the hosts going away 1-0 winners thanks to a second half goal from creative midfielder Tiago Silva. Town had their chances in the match with Ashley Hunter, Danny Andrew, Paddy Madden and Ross Wallace all going close, with their efforts being denied by Brice Samba in between the Forest sticks.
