Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce that Wes Burns has signed a new long-term contract at the club.

The 24-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a new deal which will keep him at Highbury until the summer of 2021, with the club holding an option for a further year.

Burns initially joined the club on loan in 2016, before signing permanently from Bristol City in January 2017, and has gone on to make 102 appearances in all competitions, scoring 17 goals.

The Welshman has become a key player for the Cod Army this season, more recently slotting into a right wing-back position, as well as being comfortable in attack.

Head coach Joey Barton said: “We are really pleased to see Wes commit his long-term future to the football club.

“Since I’ve come to the club he’s been first class. Wes has become a key part of our squad and is a popular member of the dressing room.

“On the pitch, he has shown an excellent attitude to adapting to a new position, and we’re really excited for the future of our team with Wes in it.”
