Under 18s coach Simon Wiles says his side are ‘buzzing’ ahead of their FA Youth Cup first round tie with Carlisle United on Thursday night.
Wiles’ side host the Cumbrians at Highbury Stadium on Thursday, and come into the tie on the back of an impressive 3-2 victory over Mansfield Town last weekend.
The Cod Army youngsters made history last season by reaching the third round, with Wiles looking to start another good run this week.
“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Wiles.
“For me personally, it’s the first time I’ve managed in the FA Youth Cup, and I’m doing it with a really exciting group of players.
“We went to Carlisle earlier in the season and drew 0-0 in a tough game. We know what they will bring, it will be an intense game and whoever sticks to the game plan on the night will probably get through to the next round.
“The lads have prepared properly, to showcase their skills on the big stage on Thursday night.”
Thursday’s tie presents an opportunity for the Under 18s to play at Highbury Stadium, something which Wiles says the team will relish.
“For me, it’s a massive part in their development. They have to learn to be able to play with a little bit of pressure at the stadium, under the lights, in an important cup competition.
“It’s a game that we’re really looking forward to, and one that the players are buzzing for and really hyped up. It’s going to be a great occasion.”
