Fleetwood Town wide man Wes Burns was back on the score sheet after bagging the winner in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town.

After picking up all three points last Saturday, Town made it two wins out of two in Sky Bet League One alongside picking up their second home win of the season.

Burns made it 2-0 after Paddy Madden opened the scoring earlier in the first-half, with the 23-year-old finding himself unmarked inside the penalty area from a Madden assist.

The Welshman now has three goals for the season, and he was delighted to grab the all-important goal for his team against the Salops.

Here are the key quotes from Wes Burns’ post-match interview…

On his goal…

“It was a very good feeling scoring the goal today, but for me the main thing is the three points. It is always nice to chip in with a goal and help the side pick up the win.

“I wouldn’t compare myself to Messi (after his run from deep prior to the goal), however it was really nice to score a free flowing goal like I did. Paddy Madden has picked me out nicely at the end, and that is huge credit to him.

“I have a target in mind, and a bet on with our masseuse for the end of the season. I won't share that with you yet, but there is a target."

On the start to the game…

“We started off well against and Ash [Hunter] and Paddy are on fire so far this season. Ash has ten assists now, and Paddy has five goals to his name, and the pair have been superb this season and I just hope it continues throughout.

“As a group we talk about starting games off fast so for us as players, it is always nice to reap the rewards from doing that. Two nil is a weird score line for any team because like we saw, if you get one back, you are right back in the game.

“Like in the Doncaster game, if you can get the third and the fourth it puts the game at ease, but that didn’t happen today. It was a hard fought victory today!”

On Alex Cairns’ save right at the death…

“He [Alex Cairns] has been on fire once again! All season, just like Ash and Paddy, he has pulled off important saves and it is always nice for him to get the recognition with his saves.

“It isn’t nice for him to have to dig us out at times but he keeps doing it.”
