Taylor: It is a tough result to take, but we will bounce back against Peterborough

20 October 2018

Portsmouth came away 1-0 winners on Saturday afternoon as Fleetwood were narrowly edged out from taking home a point at Fratton Park.

Fleetwood had chances in the game, however it was a single goal that gave Portsmouth all three points with Oli Hawkins heading the ball home from close range from a Pompey set-piece.

Paddy Madden went close for Town late on, but it wasn’t too be for Joey Barton’s as they look ahead now to Peterborough on Tuesday, and Blackpool a week today.

Ryan Taylor spoke after the 1-0 loss to league leaders Portsmouth, and here are the key quotes from the midfielder.

On the result…

“For us the result is a tough one to take as it was a bit of a scrappy game, and when you come to a place like this with an away performance plan, it nearly comes off. I thought in the first half we executed it well, and then later on it was one set play that is the difference.

“Bar their goal, they [Portsmouth] haven’t many chances in front of goal, and Alex [Cairns] is in the dressing room saying he hasn’t had one save to make but on the other hand I don’t think their keeper has either.

“On a whole, the game probably had nil nil written all over it. We are disappointed but with the way the league is, we can bounce back in the next few games.”

On the confidence and a ‘points tally’ coming into the three games….

“Our game play for today, and the weekly game plan was to take one game at a time and we now don’t look back at this game as it has now gone. We have to look up now as we head to Peterborough on Tuesday, and they are a very good side in this league, but I don’t see why we can’t go there and get three points as we’ve been good on the road so far.

“In this league you are constantly playing and it’s a given that you will hit good and bad patches, but the more good patches you do have, the better it is for you in the season. Peterborough have lost today and will want to bounce back just like us, and hopefully we are on the right end of a result come Tuesday.”

On the travelling away fans at Fratton Park…

“Huge credit to the fan (76 made the journey down South) as it is a long way to come. As players we showed our appreciation after our warm-up and after the game too.

“We know how much it means for those fans to be here supporting their team. First class by all of them for their support!”
