Dean Marney shared his delight after grabbing his first goal for Fleetwood Town in Tuesday’s victory over Coventry City.

Marney’s superb strike early in the second half set the Cod Army on the road to all three points at Highbury, with Wes Burns and Ched Evans also on the scoresheet in the second half.

See below the key quotes from Dean’s post-match interview…

On his first goal for the club…

“Obviously it’s nice to get off the mark, it’s nice to be back into the team to try and help. It’s a valuable three points. I just read the second ball, so did James Wallace, I just tried to get out of his way but he played a great little reverse pass to me, I looked up and saw nothing on so I just thought I’ll hit it as hard as I can and hope for the best.

“I don’t really score many, it’s not what I’m about but it was nice and even more to get the three points.”

On the importance of getting off the mark…

“I thought they played well first half and we had spells, there were some good chances but it was that first goal I think, whoever got that was going to go on and win the game.

“I think that’s what a lot of it comes down to in this league, who gets that first goal will win the game.”

On the FA Cup and preparing for Guiseley…

“It’s nice to put a little run together, and our focus is on the FA Cup, we’ll prepare from tomorrow, we’ll get recovered and get ready for that. Obviously it’s an important game, the big boys are coming in the next round so it’s important that we’re in that draw and then we’ll go from there.”

On the versatility of the squad…

“At the weekend I was in the stands but that’s just the way it goes. In football you just have to be patient sometimes, you have to stay positive and work hard and when you get your chance you have to be ready and take it.”
