New signing Tommy Spurr – who has joined Town on a season long loan – can't wait to get started ahead of the 2018/19 Sky Bet League One season.

The experienced defender has played over 350 professional games in his career for Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers, Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End respectively.

Spurr – who made 26 appearances for Preston North End in the past two season – has explained to the club that he wants to get back to playing regular football.

"One of the reasons for coming out on loan was to get first team football," said Spurr.

"I started off well at Preston and unfortunately picked up an injury in the middle of the season, so coming here will be good for me.

"I want to get back into it, I want to get games under my belt and enjoy my football and help the club win matches."

With Joey Barton bringing in the Englishman, he said the new Head Coach was a "massive part of my decision to come here."

The 30-year-old also told the club that new Head Coach Joey Barton played a big part on his decision to join Fleetwood on loan.

Town's latest signing added: "He's had a great playing career and for him to show interest in me was flattering.

"I just wanted to come here, be part of this team and help the club finish as high as possible."

The Englishman spoke about the facilities at the training ground and how they can help him and the rest of squad in training.

"When you look around at the facilities here, they are first class," added the defender.

"I'm looking forward to training with the lads here and I hope it keep us in good stead when we go into matches at the weekend.

"It has been a long summer for me and I've kept myself in good shape, but it will be nice to train and get underway with the lads."

Spurr becomes the club's fifth signing of the summer and will meet up with his new teammates at Poolfoot Farm on Thursday.
