Kevin O’Connor says he’s delighted to have joined Fleetwood Town on loan, after completing his move from Preston North End on Thursday.

The 22-year-old defender joined up with his new team mates at Poolfoot Farm ahead of Town’s match away at Gillingham on Saturday.

O’Connor signed for Championship side Preston in the summer of 2017 after a move from Irish side Cork City, with the left back hopes to gain valuable time on the pitch on the Fylde Coast.

“It’s great to have joined this football club,” said O’Connor.

“When I heard they were interested, it was a place I wanted to come to and having spoken to Ben Davies – who was on loan here last season – he told me all about it.

“He told me how much of a great club it is, and with the way the gaffer wants to play, it excited me.

“It’s huge to come and play here and with me having a taste in the Championship in a few games, but as a footballer you just want to play.

“For me it is all about confidence and playing week in, week out.”

With Amari’i Bell making a switch to Blackburn Rovers last week, this was the position the head coach Uwe Rosler wanted to fill.

“I was looking to get the opportunity to get a move here, it’s a forward-thinking club and with the training facilities they have on offer, I am just happy.

“The training ground is unbelievable and it’s better than most league one grounds, and training today was excellent so I am ready to go for the rest of the season.

“The long trip tomorrow will help with me getting to know the players better, and all of the lads have made me feel very welcome.

“They have all came up to me and shook my hands and introduced themselves, I can’t really ask for much more.

“I now want to impress the manager and show him what I can do!”
