Fleetwood Town Community Trust do a lot of work in the local community, and working with young children and adults with disabilities is the area the EFL and their clubs are focusing on today with the EFL's Day of Disabilities.
Monday sees 72 clubs across the United Kingdom share their #EFLDayofDisabilities by highlighting the fantastic work that takes places and for Fleetwood Town, there is so much work done in this field, we just want to celebrate and highlight what we do week in, week out.
The Community Trust works with local schools with projects such as Every Player Counts and this has seen schools such as Great Arley and Red March school work with the Trust, as well as many different organisations to provide opportunities for children and it’s staff.
Staff go into the schools and clubs on a weekly basis to deliver two curricular activities and two extra-curricular sessions per week. In these sessions that the Trust provide, the staff deliver PE & Sport to a variety of pupils, which helps keep those young children fit and active. In recent weeks there has been over 30 pupils in KS1 take part from each school, and 20 pupils in KS2 respectively.
Through the Community Trust’s Every Player Counts project, they have also set up two PAN disability football teams across the Wyre and Fylde area. These sessions take place at Town’s training complex, Poolfoot Farm, as well as Myerscough College in Preston.
Senior Development Sports Officer, Jason Sharp spoke about their work in the community and about the #EFLDayofDisabilities, and said he is very proud of what is on offer from his staff.
He said: “In terms of the programmes we offer, delivering the Every Player Counts project is one of the most rewarding projects we have to offer, one main is that the participants really come to life and excel at what they have to offer us.
“We have seen many participants increase in a lot of skills as well as their confidence. With each and every session we deliver, the outcomes are amazing and are there to be seen.
“We are proud of the work we within our local SEN schools and have built a great relationship with them.”
