Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Alex Cairns spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One clash with Burton Albion.

Fleetwood come into the game on the back of two back to back home clean sheets, and Town’s number one Alex Cairns has had his part to play in that run, along with the rest of the team.

With a goalless draw against Walsall and a 3-0 win over Coventry last time out, Highbury is becoming a fortress for Joey Barton has his Cod Army and the club’s number one knows the importance of keeping that status at home.

Here are the key quotes from Alex Cairns’ pre-match interview…

On the opposition, Burton Albion…

“If you look at what Burton have done in recent years, they have really stepped up and held their own in the Championship, but they are now back into League One and everybody wants to beat them because teams know what they are about.

“We will be going into the game to get a result against them and we won’t take anything away from them because they are a good side, and I know we will have to be at our best to beat them.

“It is always nice when an opposition manager praises the club and it is something we have deserved with what the chairman and what the manager are doing, and it really is an unbelievable place to be.”

On being back at Highbury…

“Our form as obviously flipped around from the start of the season where we were better away and not so good at home, but now we are better at home and not so good away and in any season you need to have good home form.

“I don’t know why this has happened as its swings and roundabouts with us at this moment in time, but I think we need to take real positives from our recent home form and take that forward with us for the season, and also look to take that form away with us. We know we can do it, but I can’t put my finger on it.

“We need to treat Highbury like a fortress, and I know it will be a good feeling to be back at home this weekend.”

On the busy Christmas schedule ahead for Town…

“I think what we need to do is take each game as it comes as you never know what is around the corner and we know it is a hard season as it goes on a long time and when you take one game at a time, and after Christmas you are in and around, you can maybe look ahead.

“We won’t get carried away when we are winning games, and we won’t get too low when we lose games and that is something I have learnt during my time at Fleetwood, and is something I will be using to help the younger players out in this squad, but also to make sure we are winning more games than we lose.”
