Vice-captain Ash Eastham spoke after his side picked up a valuable point at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

The central defender helped Fleetwood to back-to-back clean sheets in the league, against a very physical Addicks side.

Both sides had chances to win the game, but it was to be a stalemate at The Valley with the points shared, keeping the Cod Army in the Sky Bet League One play-off places.

Here is what Eastham had to say after the match…

On showing different qualities against Charlton…

“Charlton is a very tough place to come and we’ve had a week where we played Scunthorpe on Wednesday and today against Charlton, two team who were in the play-offs last season.

“I think it gives us credit as we have shown that with our manager, staff and players that we want to be competing at the top end of the table.

“The game was tough but it is rewarding to get another clean sheet, and I thought we were solid in many aspects of our game. Both teams had chances and I thought we might just have nicked it at the end.

“All in all, a draw was probably a fair result and it is now important we turn our focus to Tuesday’s game at Leicester.”

On the Town and the quality within the squad…

“The manager has been backed by the Chairman this summer and we have a fantastic squad now, who are all fighting for places across the pitch.

“We’ve got a strong bench, as well as players who aren’t making the 18 man squad who are quality players and it is important those on the pitch deliver as everyone is fighting for the end goal.

“The strength in depth drives each of us on and with everybody pulling in the right direction, we feel we can go on to have a really successful season.”

On keeping the clean sheets...

“Myself and Morgs [Craig Morgan], alongside Coyley [Lewie] and Hubby [James Husband] and the rest of the lads, we pride ourselves on keeping clean sheets.

“It is always nice to go down the other end and chip in with the odd goal with the lads up top, and we saw that quality they have in front of goal on Wednesday against Scunthorpe.

“They can kill games off early and for defenders, that makes our job a lot easier. Today was just so satisfying as a back four, and Alex Cairns who has been fantastic, to lead the team to a clean sheet.

“This is what top teams do. It is not all about the goals that define you, it is about the number of clean sheets you keep over the course of the season.

“The clean sheets could be the difference between having a successful season.”
