Fleetwood Town Head Coach Joey Barton spoke ahead of his sides trip to the Capital where they will face Lee Bowyer’s Addicks at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Town kept their unbeaten run going after an impressing 5-0 victory at Lincolnshire side Scunthorpe United, with Ched Evans and Wes Burns bagging two goals each in the first-half, and Ash Hunter’s stunning effort midway in the second, ensuring the win.

The Cod Army are back on the road this weekend and Barton knows that any side Lee Bowyer picks, the team will be ready to make it tough for the opposition.

Here are the best quotes from Joey Barton's pre-match press conference.

Barton on Charlton, and the threats they will pose…

“They are a top side in this division, and a side that when the season started were looking to be promoted. Charlton is a big club and I have been there as a player when they were an established Premier League side.

“My last trip to The Valley was a 4-0 win when we won the title at Burnley, but what we can’t do on Saturday is lose focus on their threats because they are a good side.

“Lee Bowyer is the manager down there, and I have come up against him many times as a player, and I know that if his side are anything like him, we will know we will be in for a tough encounter.

“We go there full of confidence, ready to give a good account of ourselves.”

On the fixture between the two clubs…

“If you had said to our Chairman Andy Pilley seven or eight years ago that we would be playing Charlton in the league; he and the people in Fleetwood would have snapped your hand off.

“I know the players want to go there and put on a performance. We want to deliver what we can delivery and go and pick up all three points.”

On the rotation of the team…

“I think I have showed that I will pick a side to win a game and if that is the same side; that is the same side.

“I do believe every game is puzzle, and there will be some games this season where I get it wrong, like in the opening day fixture and I know from what I could have one better. However against Scunthorpe, the best thing about having good staff and versatility in the squad is that you can do different things.

“As a player, I kept thinking who would do better against each opponents and how they would play and how would they nullify it during the game. Clint Hill, Steve Eyre and Baz Nicholson were like that as players so it helps when we look at it.

"We will give the lads options and it's important that they go out there and deliver when on the pitch."
