Fleetwood Town head coach John Sheridan has spoken about the confidence in his squad as they travel to face Rotherham United on Saturday.

After two wins over the Easter weekend, including Monday’s 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers at Highbury, Fleetwood have finally hit Sheridan’s aim of 51 points.

The Cod Army are now nine points clear of the relegation zone, however Sheridan will not be sitting comfortably after reaching his aim, as he looks ahead to Saturday’s game in South Yorkshire.

“I still feel there’s probably another couple of points we need so it’s important we go into the next game trying to win it.

“We go there thinking that we’re going to win the game, we’re on good form, we’ve got a bit of confidence.

“I respect Rotherham they’re having a decent season so I go in there just thinking of Fleetwood and thinking of how we can affect the game and what we can do and to carry on what we’ve been doing of late and if we can do that we’ve got a good chance of getting something.”

The head coach has praised his squad for their hard work and positivity since he arrived at Fleetwood.

“The lads have done brilliant since I’ve come in and again I’ll praise the players, I think they’ve been excellent in the way they’ve gone about things and to get themselves in the position they’re in and we aim to improve, that’s what we do.

“The whole squad, the 11 obviously get the plaudits, or 12 or 13 players who have mostly been involved in the last couple of games, but it’s about the squad.

“I always felt that we have players where if we create chances we will score goals, we haven’t outscored teams by scoring 3 or 4, we’ve just got the job done, 1-0 is as good as 4-0.”

After achieving five clean sheets and remaining unbeaten for seven matches, there have been discussions over Sheridan’s future at Fleetwood, but he remains focused on the job in hand.

“It’s not crossed my mind, I am here until the end of the season and while I’ve got to do a job still I’ll just carry on doing it.

“I’m just bothered about the team and winning games and whatever may be will take care of itself, I’m not thinking about anything else really just concentrating while we are doing well that we just carry on doing well."
