John Sheridan has shared his thoughts ahead of Saturday’s trip to South Yorkshire to face Rotherham United.

Below are the key points from John’s press conference at Poolfoot Farm…

What is next for Fleetwood Town after reaching the 51-point mark on Monday...

“To win the next game, I still feel there’s probably another couple of points we need so it’s important we go into the next game trying to win it.

“Every game we’ve got remaining we will try to win so we’re going to try and get as many points as we can and as quickly as we can.

“The lads have done brilliant since I’ve come in and again I’ll praise the players, I think they’ve been excellent in the way they’ve gone about things and to get themselves in the position they’re in and we aim to improve, that’s what we do.”

Will it be difficult to keep players motivated now they have reached 51-points...

“No I don’t think they’re like that anyway and I wouldn’t let them be like that, I’ve said to them I want us to try and win as many games and stay unbeaten for as long as we can and we go into a tough game at Rotherham.”

On Rotherham…

“I respect Rotherham they’re having a decent season so I go in there just thinking of Fleetwood and thinking of how we can affect the game and what we can do and to carry on what we’ve been doing of late and if we can do that we’ve got a good chance of getting something.

“They’ll just want to win the game, they’re at home, they’ve got good players in their team going forward and they score a lot of goals, they play on the front foot.

“We go there thinking that we’re going to win the game, we’re on good form, we’ve got a bit of confidence.”

Giving the squad a new lease of life...

“The whole squad, the 11 obviously get the plaudits, or 12 or 13 players who have mostly been involved in the last couple of games, but it’s about the squad.

“I always felt that we have players where if we create chances we will score goals, we haven’t outscored teams by scoring 3 or 4, we’ve just got the job done, 1-0 is as good as 4-0.

“I try and keep everyone as happy as I can and keep them involved as much as I can.

“I think it’s important you try and look after people I want them to come in and enjoy work and to come in and work properly and do things properly.”

Could Sheridan have imagined achieving what he has at Fleetwood so far…

“I would never have said I’m going to come in and win or stay unbeaten for seven games and have five clean sheets, I would never dream of that.

“I just want to stay unbeaten and win as many games and do the good things what we’re doing, have good habits and carry on doing that until the last game of the season.”

On his future at Fleetwood…

“It’s not crossed my mind, I am here until the end of the season and while I’ve got to do a job still I’ll just carry on doing it.

“I’m just bothered about the team and winning games and whatever may be will take care of itself, I’m not thinking about anything else really just concentrating while we doing well we just carry on doing well.”

On the supporters and their expectations...

“While I’ve been here everything’s been going well, the results and the fans, a couple of home wins so everything’s just going in the right direction so we’d all love it to continue.

“It does give everyone a lift and you can see that bit of relief because it was tight, you look at three, four or five games ago, you were worried but the players have done a brilliant job in getting us in the position where we are at this moment in time."
