Fleetwood Town's head coach spoke after Fleetwood Town's 4-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon, with the result seeing Paul Cook's side promoted to the Sky Bet Championship.

Two first half goals from Max Power and Gavin Massey gave the away side the lead at the break, and two second half goals from Dan Burn and Chey Dunkley give Wigan three points against John Sheridan's side.

Sheridan was interviewed after the game and here is what he had to say:

On his thoughts on the game…

"It was a tough game for us playing against a team who have gained promotion, but I thought we started the game well.

"Up until the first goal, I was thinking we are doing alright here, competing, doing everything I asked for and being well in the match.

"The game changed when the first goal went in and I knew if that happened, it would make life difficult for us because they have that quality in the team. It was a poor goal to concede on our part and it has come from a wrong decision that we made.

"Little things can lead to a big thing and that's happened with the first goal, but I did believe we were right in it up until then.

"Then the second goal goes in, and that is where it ends up being much more difficult for us.

"They scored four, maybe could have been more but I just have to take the result, and not take away what the players have achieved."

On what he has said to the players…

"I have told the players to keep their heads up.

"I'd like us to go and finish the season off the season with two wins and finish strongly.

"We just need to take what has happened, we came up against a very good team and congratulations to Paul Cook's team because they are the best team in the division, and they have been promoted."

On the difference in the final third…

"What Wigan did today was play quick and keep it simple.

"They controlled the ball better, they passed it around and made good runs on the pitch. I just felt once that first goal went in, we lost our way a bit not through the lack of trying.

"We played against a team who keep the ball, and that is something we need to learn from in the future.

On the players since arrival…

"What the players have done is great. I am 98% certain we will be in this league next season and that was my aim when I came in.

"They've done brilliantly to achieve that, and they know they haven't had the best of seasons. I have told them that it has been a poor season, but since I came in, they've nearly achieved the target.

"We want to finish on a positive with results over Peterborough and Walsall."

On the job Paul Cook has done at Wigan…

"Paul has got some great players, and has a good squad and today there were some left out.

"He has brought players in and I want to congratulate him on the job he has done this season at Wigan."

On the week ahead prior to Peterborough away…

"The players have had a good run out today in the heat, and they've made us work hard.

"We will have a look at players after today, look after them. I don't want us to beat ourselves down as nobody likes to lose a game, or lose 4-0.

"I can't get carried away with what we have achieved in a short time I have been here, I just need to give them a lift up and get back to winning ways next week."
