Development Squad head coach reacts after Sheffield United win

Fleetwood Town Development Squad head coach Paul Murray has hailed his side following their heroic 3-2 win over Sheffield United on Tuesday.

Town will now contest the Central Development Cup final and Murray says he drew on past experiences to motivate his men at half time.

Two goals from Alex Reid and one from Ashley Nadesan completed a remarkable comeback as the hosts trailed 2-0 at the break.

“I’m very pleased,” said Murray.

“To come back from two goals down and win is a great feeling. I’ve done it myself during my career, when I was at Port Vale we came back from 4-0 down, so I knew it was possible.

“At half time I had a firm word with the lads and told them it was important to get that first goal early in the second half, thankfully we did that to put us back in it.”

Fleetwood’s equaliser came with 10 minutes remaining and Murray says he continued to urge his side forward to go for the winner as penalties loomed.

“We kept knocking on the door late on and eventually we got it,” he said.

The winner finally came deep into added time from Reid, and his manager was pleased with the attacker’s application throughout the game.

“I thought he took the header for his second goal really well,” said Murray.

“Alex worked hard today and got his reward with the two goals.

“We’ve got a boost now as we head into another semi-final we’ve got coming up against Blackburn.

“My aim was to get to both finals, so obviously were in one now, hopefully we will put ourselves in the position to finish off the season with two competitive finals.”
