Head Coach hails skipper after he signs new deal
Uwe Rosler hailed Nathan Pond as an ‘example to the rest the squad’ after the defender signed a new deal with the club.
Pond – who has made a record 453 appearances for Fleetwood – signed a one-year contract extension with the club on Thursday keeping him at Highbury until at least the summer of 2018.
“I’m very pleased for Pondy,” said Rosler.
“I’m pleased the chairman saw the same way of thinking as we did because I think Pondy has been brilliant since I walked through the door – both on and off the pitch. He’s very important for the group. I’m delighted that he keeps on going with us and our journey together and I’m sure he’s improving day by day.
“He’s an example for the rest of the squad and I’m very happy to have him.”
Pond’s journey with the Cod Army started in 2003, when he signed for the club in the North West Counties League. He has since played in seven different divisions for Town – a world record!
“I think going through all those divisions it is unusual, but that is why he is in the Guinness Book of Records.
“He is right up there with the best. He realises where he has come from and where he has come from and what football can give him. He has to be on the top of his game to keep improving.
“I’m really happy we are getting a level of consistency from him. He’s a big factor for us from the summer onwards.
“He is not the type of character who will let it go after signing a new contract, it will just give him more responsibility to perform even better.
