Skipper reflects on draw with Championship side
Nathan Pond praised the travelling away support and thanked them for ‘getting us over the line’ after holding Bristol City to a 0-0 draw.
Fleetwood will now be in the fourth round draw on Monday, the first time ever in the club’s history that they have been that far in the Emirates FA Cup.
However, a replay will be needed at Highbury first before dreams of a fourth round tie can properly begin.
“I thought the lads were superb today,” said Pond, who made his 454th appearance for the club in the game at Ashton Gate.
“I thought we were very organised. They caused us one or two problems from set pieces which we talked about before the game, so we knew that was coming with the size of the new signing and Flint at the back.
“The supporters got us over the line and we look forward to the game at Highbury.
“I thought we deserved a draw and deserve to have another bite at the cherry.”
Pond also spoke after the match about his side’s strong home record ahead of the replay on Tuesday 17th January.
“We have good home form at the moment and we’ve only lost one at home this season in the league.
“The last time they came to us in the league it was 3-3. Tuesday night at Fleetwood, I’m sure the crowd will be up for it, it’s a long journey for them and hopefully we can finish the job off.
“The last time I came here I was on the bench, but I knew they had the stadium complete but I didn’t know it was as impressive as this. I really enjoyed the occasion today and I’m sure all of the other lads did too.”
