Town secure signing of highly rated striker

Fleetwood Town are delighted to confirm the signing of Alex Reid from Rushall Olympic for an undisclosed fee.

The highly rated striker joins the Cod Army after scoring 40 goals in the last 18 months, helping his side to the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Reid, a product of Aston Villa’s youth academy which he joined at the age of ten, impressed during a trial at the club last month, catching the eye with an all-action display in attack.

On the move, the 21-year-old said: “I am absolutely delighted to sign for Fleetwood Town and I cannot wait to get started.

“This is an excellent chance for me to make the step-up into League football, and the facilities and people at Fleetwood Town made my decision easy.

“I’m a quick exciting player who always looks to score goals. I like making runs in behind but I am just looking to excite the fans and the best way I feel I can do that is by scoring goals."

It's not the first time Town have dipped into the Evo-Stik Premier Division for a player.

Just two years ago Fleetwood Town signed Ashley Hunter from Ilkeston with the attacker now going on to be one of the hottest prospects in Sky Bet League One.

And Paul Murray, Town’s Development Squad coach, said he’s looking forward to working with the club’s latest prospect.

“Alex is a player who did very well for us during his week training at Poolfoot Farm,” he said.

“We saw enough to think he has a real chance to develop and progress into our first team.

“He’s strong, athletic and has an eye for goal. We look forward to working with him.”
