Striker speaks after making second debut for the club at Coventry

Wes Burns has revealed the pressure of wearing the number nine shirt for Fleetwood is ‘driving him on’.

Burns made his second debut for the club on Saturday at Coventry City, after signing permanently for Uwe Rosler’s side last week.

The former Bristol City man says he is relishing the responsibility ahead of Tuesday night’s away fixture at Sheffield United.

“The fixtures are relentless in this league and everybody can beat everybody,” said Burns, ahead of the trip to Bramall Lane.

“We need to prepare properly and look after ourselves going into the game.

“Everyone is really upbeat around the place and we know what we need to do in each game. The main thing for us is to take it each game as it comes and keep racking up the points.

“It was really good to be back, especially with having the number nine on my back too. It comes with a lot of responsibility but I’m glad I’ve got that pressure and it’s going to drive me on.”

The 22-year-old also reflected on Saturday’s win over the Sky Blues, as Fleetwood climbed to fourth in Sky Bet League One.

“It showed good character from the lads to get the goal.

Obviously it wasn’t the greatest of games, and the pitch wasn’t the best but it just goes to show the character we have. When the subs came on they made an impact – including myself – it was a great

win for us.

“Personally, I think I should have done better with the chance. I’ve been lacking game time and lacking a bit of confidence at the moment but I’m sure with the more I play, I’ll score more than I miss.”
