Defender speaks to the media after 1-0 win at Sky Blues

Cian Bolger has revealed he was ‘delighted’ to be Fleetwood’s match winner at Coventry City on Saturday.

Bolger rose highest in the 89th minute from Kyle Dempsey’s corner to earn Uwe Rosler’s men three points at the Ricoh Arena as they overcame a stubborn Sky Blues side.

The win sees Fleetwood move into fourth in the table and have stretched their unbeaten run in the league to ten games, while Coventry remain rooted to  the bottom of League One.

“It was a very important goal,” said Bolger.

“They’re obviously struggling at the minute – but they’re a good side and they put up a good test so we had to defend well as a team.

“It was a great ball in – but I had a chance literally five minutes before it which I probably should’ve scored as well – but it was a great delivery and I managed to lose my man and get on the end of it.

“It’s always nice to score the goal – but it’s not just about me – it’s about the team and we’re looking to do something so it was an important three points.

“Looking at the results coming in - a few have gone our way - so I’m delighted to get the winner and keep our run going in the league.”

The Ricoh Arena playing surface did not give Town the ideal conditions to play their free flowing style and Bolger confessed they had to adapt.

“We said before the game we have to adapt to the conditions – it wasn’t a surface that was going to

suit us.

“So we went in with a game plan and we stayed in the game and nicked it at the end.”

The goal was Bolger’s third of the campaign and he has been a regular in the Cod Army’s starting XI for most of the season so far.

“I’ve enjoyed being involved – we’re obviously disappointed to lose Pondy [Nathan Pond] because he’s our leader in the dressing room but we’ve said amongst ourselves that we’ve got plenty of leaders that need to step up to the plate now.”
