Cutting edge the difference between the sides: Rosler

9 December 2017

Uwe Rosler highlighted the cutting edge in either box was the difference between the two sides, as his team lost 2-0 at Wigan Athletic.

Goals from Nick Powell and Dan Burn secured all three points for Paul Cook’s men, which now sees them four points clear at the top of Sky Bet League One.

Rosler spoke after the game and believed decision making in the final third was the difference.

“I think the cutting edge at both ends was crucial,” said Rosler.

“We played in the wrong area at times, but we also played some really nice stuff when we cut them open but the final ball was lacking, we played some good stuff.

“These are the areas where you win games, or lose games. The game had hardly started and we found ourselves 1-0 down.

“The first goal I feel was nothing to do with the structure of the team, it was a mistake.

“Just before half time we conceded again from a set piece. That’s where we need to do be better, to stay in games and help us get the first goal in matches.”

Despite being two goals down at the break, Rosler was pleased with the way his team battled in the second half.

“My players gave me everything today,” added the German.

“It was a shame we had to take off Kyle Dempsey in the second half due to concussion. We have all seen that we need to do something in January, and add some quality.

“I have to compliment my players, compliment their attitude, compliment their will to come back into the game.

“However, in the end, the deciding point was in both boxes. Wigan had more quality in the two areas today."
