Kyle Dempsey says his side are looking to get back the winning feeling back on Friday night when they face Gillingham at Highbury (7pm k/o).

Town haven’t won in the league since late October, but have enjoyed progression in both the Checkatrade Trophy and Emirates FA Cup.

Having enjoyed two wins over the Gills last season, including a memorable winner for Dempsey in the reverse fixture, the midfielder is hoping for the same outcome on Friday.

“Friday’s game is massive,” said Dempsey.

“It can be a confidence boost to win. If we can put a string of wins together, we will climb the table to where we feel we belong.

“In our last match I thought our game plan and everything we did on the training pitch was perfect. We had a comfortable lead and it was two mistakes that cost us at the end of the match.

“Everybody makes mistakes, and we need to sweep those under the carpet and get on with the next game.

“I am confident for Friday, and I think we need a win to get back that winning feeling back in the camp."

The 22-year-old spoke very openly about the recent run of results for Fleetwood and knows how important it is for the team to stick together.

“The main thing is we can’t afford to have a divide because it will keep going downhill,” added Dempsey.

“We need to stick together like we did last season and get back to winning ways, and get a nice little run going.

“Many will see the game as a must win tomorrow, and the players see it that what too. We know if we deliver, we can beat Gillingham and if we stick to our game plan, we will win.”

The Cumbrian has also highlighted the importance the fans can play as Town look to climb the league table.

The fans got upset at the weekend with the way we finished the game, but they need to stick by us, like they did last season.

“They give us that lift we needed and got us through some games last season where we were nicking the last minutes winners.

“They need to keep doing that to help us get us out of the little bad form we are in."
