Uwe Rosler shared his delight after Tuesday’s 3-0 Checkatrade Trophy win over Leicester City under 21’s at Highbury.

Goals from Godswill Ekpolo, Baily Cargill and Wes Burns sealed a comfortable win for the Cod Army, in their opening fixture in this year’s competition.

Town’s head coach spoke following the match and highlighted the team’s all round performance, following the victory.

“I’m very pleased,” said Rosler.

“We showed the right mentality from the first minute and I think that was the key for the success. We were good with the ball and very good without the ball. We controlled the game, we were creative and controlled possession.

“We created a number of opportunities, scored three goals and got a clean sheet. The players put themselves in the shop window for further minutes.”

The German reserved praise for Godswill and Cargill, who both scored their first goals for the club under the lights at Highbury.

“I’m very pleased for Baily in his first start,” added Rosler.

“He scored a goal and everyone could see what he is about – in general in defence did really well. I’m personally really happy for Godswill. He had a tough time and had to wait a long time for his chance and he has shown that he is a really good competitor and today he had really good quality on the ball in the opposition half.

“He scored a goal and was involved in a lot of the good things we had.”

Attention now turns to Town’s next league match which is over ten days away, with Rosler looking forward to spending some time on the training pitch.

“We have ten days to the next game and we can prepare in peace with a good spirit in the camp."
