Fleetwood Town defender Cian Bolger is looking to build off last week’s performance against Northampton Town on Saturday at Sixfields Stadium.

The 25-year-old – who has played in both games so far this season – thinks the side have set high standards for themselves against Rotherham United, and want to achieve them again this weekend.

“I think as a whole team, not just defensively, I think going forward as well, we looked quite good and quite positive,” said Bolger.

“We’ve set standards that are quite high and we need to get back to them this weekend.

“When we went there last season I think we got a good result there on the first day of last season so let’s hope we can go there and get another positive result.”

The Celbridge-born defender is looking forward to the game, and facing former team-mate Chris Long – who helped Town start their unbeaten streak last season before leaving in January.

Bolger said: “You go against players who you’ve played with, that’s just football I guess, swings and roundabouts.

“It so happens that Longy is there but we won’t be showing any respect to him on Saturday although it would be good to see him.

“I’m Looking forward to it, it’s going to be another tough test against another tough side.

“We are looking forward to going down and giving them a good game.”
