Fleetwood Town midfielder Kyle Dempsey is relishing the opportunity of facing former club Carlisle United on Tuesday night in the first round Carabao Cup.

The 21-year-old left the Cumbrian side for Huddersfield Town in 2015, for an undisclosed fee after coming through the youth ranks at the club.

Whitehaven-born, the midfielder made 47 league appearances for United scoring 11 goals, and can’t wait to see some familiar faces on Tuesday night at Highbury.

“Personally I can’t wait just to be playing in front of the Carlisle fans,” said Dempsey.

“It will give them a chance to see how much of a step I have took from when I played for them. I have always got good things to say about Carlisle. I still support them but I think it will be really interesting on Tuesday to play against them.

“One thing the fans will know is that I won’t be taking anything easy. I will be giving it 100% for Fleetwood, I won’t be holding back.”

Now in the red of white of Fleetwood, Dempsey reserved praise for former boss Keith Curle, who is still in charge of the League Two side.

“I think I scored five goals in six games and I hit a really good streak when Keith came in,” added the 21-year-old.

“He gave me all the confidence that I needed. He backed me from the start and I think you could see that from the season I had.”

Town’s new number eight was speaking to the media just days after the opening day win over Rotherham United.

“I think the performance and the way in which we went about the game really showed what we are going to be about this season.

“I think as a Championship side coming down, a lot of people thought they would be able to turn us over but I think we proved that we can deal with teams like this.”

Tickets for Tuesday night’s match with Carlisle United are still available, with adult tickets starting from just £12. Call 01253 775080 to book, visit the ticket office at Highbury Stadium or buy online at www.ftfcstore.com
