On-loan defender Baily Cargill revealed he was pleased to grab his first goal in Tuesday night’s 3-0 win against Leicester City’s U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Cargill – who joined from Premier League side Bournemouth last week – made his full debut, after coming on as a substitute in Saturday’s defeat at Bristol Rovers.

Despite grabbing a second goal, and excelling in defence, the 22-year-old highlighted the whole team’s performance in the comfortable win.

“I thought we were class tonight,” said Cargill.

“I thought we played the ball really well in good areas and played well. It was a solid performance, 3-0 and we showed our class throughout the match.”

“I wasn’t expecting to score tonight but I felt pretty good in the box. I felt I was going to score pretty much every time I went up. I was pleased to get one in the end!”

It’s been a quick start to life at Fleetwood Town for the young defender, but with Sunday’s game with Blackburn Rovers now postponed due to international call-ups, Town are not in action for ten days until they host Oldham Athletic.

“The break will give us a chance to regroup after the loss on Saturday, but today was an important result too,” added Cargill.

“I think tonight was a good test for us and we’ve got the confidence back again. We can now work hard on the training ground and get ready for the next game.”
