Stopper reflects on home win
Alex Cairns has described Monday’s 1-0 win over Millwall as ‘a massive three points’ for the club.
The win over the Lions on Easter Monday secured a play-off spot for Town with two games of the season left to play.
Cairns was instrumental in ensuring The Cod Army took all three points, after a string of unbelievable saves for Uwe Rosler’s side.
“To be honest it all goes by as a blur,” said Cairns.
“I’m there to do my job which is to keep the ball out of the net it’s as simple as that. I did that today and we got the three points.
“I’m speechless really, my head’s pounding a bit now but what a massive three points for the boys. What a win.”
The 24-year-old was quick to praise those in front of him, alluding to the team effort in a bid to keep clean sheets.
“At the end of the day it’s not just the back four, it’s the whole team that defend, and we defended well as a team and we deserved the three points,” added Cairns.
“It’s totally deserved, the boys have worked so hard day in day out. We all work hard together and I’m absolutely delighted with the position we’re in and let’s keep going from here.”
The former Leeds man highlighted the contribution of goal scorer Ben Davies also, who scored his first senior goal.
“We got the goal which I thought we deserved. Ben got free headers a few times and he deserved the goal. He was outstanding today as was Pondy and Ash (Eastham) and all the boys,” said the Town keeper.
“As soon as we got into our stride and started playing we played some really good football in the end.”
Cairns gave a mention to the Fleetwood faithful also, their efforts not going unnoticed by the players during the game and at full time.
“It was a great reception at the end, it was amazing to see all the fans cheering and clapping and that’s the type of atmosphere you want especially when you win in games like that.”
