Defender previews trip to Boundary Park

Cian Bolger has said that the travelling Fleetwood fans could ‘get them over the line’ in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture with Oldham Athletic.

Town travel to Boundary Park on the back of Wednesday’s win at Oxford United, with Bolger at the heart of a strong performance by Uwe Rosler’s side.

With travelling support increasing as the season goes on, the Irish defender has said in his pre-match press that the Cod Army could play a huge role on Saturday.

“The fans have been fantastic since the turn of the year,” said Bolger.

“Hopefully we can get a big following there [on Saturday] and they can get us over the line.

“It was important for us to bounce back [on Wednesday against Oxford] in the right way and to show the character we have in the squad.

“Even in the Swindon game we had chances to score but didn’t quiet have the rub of the green. It was great to get the three goals.”

The 25 year-old is expecting another tough game against the Latics, who almost held on for a draw in the reverse game on New Year’s Eve, but an injury-time own goal from Josh Law gave Town all three points.

“We know it’s going to be another tough test,” added Bolger.

“When they came to our place they made it difficult and we know what we’re going to be in for when we go to their place. It’s going to be a tough battle.

“I think we’re not the biggest side – we admit that ourselves – and they are a big physical side and we’ve got to go there and stand up to it. We also have to go there and play our stuff as well as match

them physically and win the battle.

“We’re all pretty fresh and the win makes you a little fresher! The confidence is in the squad again which is great.”
