Sowerby pleased with goal and three points

Jack Sowerby marked his first start for Fleetwood Town in great fashion as he scored the first of two Cod Army goals as Town beat Peterborough 2-0 at Highbury.

Sowerby, who scored earlier in the week against Preston for the Development Squad, continued his scoring run with a second minute goal today after latching onto a great through ball by Ashley Hunter.

“I looked around and realised no one was near to me and those chances are the harder ones but I took it well and luckily managed to score,” said Sowerby.

“To get an early start like that really helped calm the lads down and set the mood for the game.”

Sowerby hasn’t featured for the first team this season, but is keen to ensure he stays in Uwe Rosler’s side moving forward.

“If it doesn’t work out for you the trick is to just keep working.

“Luckily it worked out for me and that’s the same message for all young players trying to break through.

“It was a massive three points today and no matter how you win, the three points are the most important thing.”

After playing two games in five days, the 21 year-old was withdrawn with15 minutes left to a standing ovation from the home crowd.

“It’s been a crazy week and I started to cramp up.

“My legs got tired but I gave it my all out there and hopefully this is the first of many.”
